Putting all her eggs in one basket, Agatha Raisin gives up her successful PR firm, sells her London flat, and settles into early retirement in the quiet village of Carsely. Bored, lonely, and accustomed to getting her own way, she enters a local baking contest.

Despite never having baked a thing in her life, Agatha is convinced that a quiche secretly purchased from an exclusive London shop will make her the toast of the town. But her recipe for social success goes badly wrong when the contest judge not only rejects her entry—but suddenly drops dead.

Agatha Raisin and the Vicious Vet

Agatha Raisin still hasn’t adjusted to the slow pace of village life—or to the rejection of her romantic advances toward her handsome neighbor, James Lacey. When a young and attractive veterinarian arrives in town, Agatha sees a new opportunity for romance and subjects her perfectly healthy tabby cat to an unnecessary examination.

Unfortunately, her efforts are wasted when the vet is soon found dead. The police dismiss the death as a freak accident, but Agatha persuades James that investigating the mystery could be fun. Before long, however, Agatha’s amateur sleuthing attracts dangerous attention, and her curiosity may prove deadly.
